Functions

Animal Control serves the residents of Madison by providing care, control, and resolution to situations dealing with domestic animals and wildlife.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with lost or found animals
  • Educating the public on topics related to animals
  • Encouraging responsible pet ownership
  • Enforcing the Animal Control Ordinance (Code of Ordinances, Chapter 14)
  • Inspecting licensed animal kennels and facilities, exhibitions, and animal drawn vehicles
  • Investigating complaints of animal neglect and/or cruelty
  • Picking up stray or aggressive animals
  • Working with nonprofit animal shelters
